The following is an outline of the basics of what JMM Summer Interns will be involved

Missions:

• Most of Tuesdays serving the primarily African-American communities of South Dallas through Bridge Builders.  This is a community-based ministry out of a Boys-Girls Club facility.  Their activities will include:

 *serving as a small group Bible study leader

 *evangelism with the 9-16 year-olds

 *playing games (especially basketball) with the kids

 *serving on the summer leadership team

• Several hours on Thursdays serving the Hispanic and Vietnamese community in Garland, TX through the ROC.  This is a ministry of a local church in that area.  His activities will likely include:

*leading VBS-type activities with elementary and middle school-aged kids

*hanging out with the kids as they play various games at the ROC center. This provides opportunities to get to know the kids and hopefully share the gospel with them.

• Operation Carelift 2002 Summer Project to Russia.  The main activities of this project are:

*distribution of humanitarian aid and literature to orphanages, hospitals, homes for abused kids and kids with alcoholic parents, prisons, summer camps

*serving alongside local churches and existing ministries

*sharing the gospel with the children and their caregivers through interpreters, especially using his life story and gospel bead bracelets

Personal Growth and Training:

            All of the students will have wonderful opportunities to:

• be personally mentored by 1-2 mature JMM staff
• have some personal assessments done using Uniquely You© (creative temperament and spiritual gifts inventory), JPEA© (personal preference and leadership style analysis), LifeStory© (exercise in discovering how God has used significant relationships and experiences to move a person to where he/she is today).  (Thursdays)
• experience Monday night Alpha meals which will incorporate fellowship and apologetics training
• be involved with corporate Bible study, prayer and worship (Tuesdays)
• live with other interns, which builds lifetime people skills

Service

            All interns will have a place of service within the Josh McDowell Ministry headquarters.  Their arenas of service will, as much as possible, be good fits for the students so they can use existing skills and develop new ones.  There will be oversight by senior staff in their departments.  This service will be 3 days a week, approx. 8:00-5:00

Recreation:

            The students generally get Saturdays and Sundays off.  The project leadership will schedule periodic fun times, like Texas Ranger baseball games, meals out, special events for the men or women.

The JMM Summer Project Internship team hopes this is helpful in understanding more of what we are trying to do for the students.  Our main goal for them is to help prepare them for the next phase of life/ministry God has for them.
